Judge scrutinizes ballot pitch for property tax amendment

A Leon County circuit judge Wednesday weighed whether a proposed constitutional amendment on reducing property taxes should be rewritten, with the measure’s critics arguing it improperly includes “political rhetoric” to sway voters.

Judge David Frank did not issue a ruling after a two-hour hearing, but he faces what one lawyer called a “time crunch.” Elections supervisors could start printing ballots for the November election as soon as Aug. 27, when primary election results will be certified.
